Shizuo stayed out in the kitchen. It was better than going into the sitting room and sharing the same air with Izaya. That damned rat of a man could just stay in there by himself. Really it was better for the both of them that they be separated by at least what wall there was between the living room and the kitchen.
Once he felt a hand on his shoulder, his body was instantly tense. He feared it was Izaya. He looked back and felt himself relax, as he saw it was only Shinra. After he set the glass down he shrugged,
“Yea everything is fine, why?” he asked and then raised his eyebrow. “Is Orihara making up lies about me again?!” He said and then growled and snapped his gaze onto the couch.
“I’ll beat him, I’ll beat him so bad he’ll be a inch within life.” He said through gritted teeth, “Why can’t he just shut his mouth.” He grumbled then started to walk around Shinra heading for the couch.

Shinra’s eyes widened as Shizuo started walking toward the couch. “No, no, no, no, no! He didn’t say anything!” he whined, following after Shizuo. Oh crap, oh crap…. Why do they have to fight now? “I was just concerned, oh come on!”
He hurried ahead of Shizuo, getting between him and Izaya. “Can’t I show concern for my friend without everything going back to Izaya? Can you two just not fight for once in your lives? Aren’t you two here for me? Shizuo, I – Izaya, are you really eating that?” he stared at Izaya, a silver spoon hanging out of the ravenette’s mouth. “Oh, gross, Izaya, I was eating that! Ew. My first kiss was supposed to go to Celty, eeeeeeew!” Shinra yanked the spoon out of Izaya’s hand whipping it on his pants and took the bucket of ice-cream back. He made a face. Oh god, an indirect kiss with Izaya? Not to say he’s not attractive, but eeeeeeeew. Why didn’t Izaya think of that? Oh yeah… because Izaya probably doesn’t give a damn.

He heard the ruckus while the two teens were still in the kitchen. Shizuo was overreacting to something, as usual, and Izaya heard his name, of course. He really couldn't get over how outraged he could make Shizuo by doing absolutely nothing at all—he wondered vaguely how insanely freaked out Shizuo would act if Izaya actually provoked him on a regular basis.
It seemed Shizuo was threatening violence to him again, though Izaya would hardly consider himself worried. Shinra always managed to diffuse things between them somehow. At least, in all the times they'd been in Shinra's apartment simultaneously, Izaya had yet to actually get attacked by Shizuo, which had to say something either for Izaya's luck, or for Shinra's ability to reign Shizuo in while in his apartment at least. Either way, Izaya was far from concerned and he stayed right where he was on the couch as he walked Shizuo storm out of the kitchen and into the living room, with Shinra quickly trailing behind him.
The brunette jumped between the two of them, stopping Shizuo in his tracks as he pleaded with him… and then suddenly Shinra's attention was on him, grabbing the spoon and ice cream away from him and whining about Izaya taking an indirect kiss from him.
"Oh, please, don't start with that," he said with heavy exasperation, only able to roll his eyes in the most exaggerated fashion possible. "Besides, just how in the world are you supposed to have a first kiss with someone who's headless, anyway?"

Shizuo looked down at him and blinked then rolled his eyes...which was followed by a sigh.
“Whatever” He mumbled and then blinked and looked to Izaya as Shinra was now on his case. Shizuo shook his head as he watched Shinra freak out. He snapped a glare to Izaya when the flea started to talk. Oh there he done did it now.
Did Izaya think AT ALL before he spoke? It seemed not. Why would you ask something like that to Shinra. You just don't. He knew that much at least.
Shizuo walked to the back of the couch then reached out and smacked the back of Izaya's head just enough to cause light pain.
“Don't be saying stuff like that now.” he said between gritted teeth as he looked from Izaya to Shinra, crossing his arms over his chest. Really, why would you say something like that at a time like this. Izaya never thought things through. Unless he said it cause he knew the kind of reaction from Shinra it would cause. In which case, Izaya was a bigger jerk then Shizuo thought.

"Besides, just how in the world are you supposed to have a first kiss with someone who's headless, anyway?"
That made Shinra stop it rant. His eyes got really wide and his mouth fell open… searching for a way to somehow share a kiss with a headless girl… and came up empty. He sat down on the coffee table, letting that sink in. He’d always had this big fantasy that Celty would be his first in everything – first love, first girlfriend, first “time”…first kiss.
But his future wife doesn’t have a mouth.
That was kind of distressing.
Shinra’s bottom lip started to wibble. “I’m never going to have a first kiss…..” He stared up at Shizuo and Izaya dejectedly. He tried to find some loop hole, some way around that, but found none. You can’t kiss someone without a mouth. That was basic biology. Well, you could kiss them, he supposed, but not that intimate lip-to-lip sort of kiss.

Before Shinra could respond to his question (possibly in a shocked silence?), he heard Shizuo growl at him. As if Izaya was the one that needed to be scolded. Shizuo was the one who barged in here and threw poor Shinra into an icy shower. How could asking one little question be worse than that?
Of course, Shinra was choked out of his silence after a moment or so, and he plopped down onto the coffee table in front of Izaya with a vacant, distressed look on his face. The realization that he couldn't actually kiss Celty finally seemed to dawn on him, and he stuck his bottom lip out, where it began to quiver pathetically.
"Don't tell me you hadn't already thought about that," Izaya said, more than mildly vexed. Shinra had claimed to be in love with Celty since he was four, hadn't he? How was it POSSIBLE that in more than a decade, Shinra has failed to realize that Celty had no head, and no head meant no kissing. It was simple anatomy, really (though perhaps simple wasn't the word for it). Izaya would have thought that, as Shinra was falling in love with Celty (if what he said was really true, anyway), he would have thought of that already and would have already rasoned it away as an issue. He had no clue how the teen had avoided even considering the fact that he would never have a set of lips to kiss.
Realizing he would have to break the tension of the situation before Shinra started to bawl again, he leaned forward and put a hand on Shinra's shoulder and said, "But it's okay because Celty is worth it, right?"

It wasn’t that he’d never envisioned himself with Celty…. It was just he looked through the whole thing through a rosey fog. Ever since he was a child, he’d dress up his toys in a “wedding dress” – a white sheet that was supposed to go on his pillow – and he’d put on a “tux” – dark pants and his big, black winter coat. He would then hold the stuffed animal’s paws, and recite the preacher’s lines in a hoity-toity voice, respond in his own, and respond for “Celty” in a high pitched little voice.
And it always ended in “You may kiss the bride” and he would kiss his teddy bear. It hadn’t even occurred to the child him that Celty couldn’t do that. He had been too lost in the idea of a perfect romance, and all the perfect romances on television had kisses.
It was a silly dream, thinking about it, but when you have a crazy father and no mom, you fantasize about a perfect relationship. It was a psychosis thing.
The rosey perfection blinded him from the glaring facts. The love of his life had no mouth. “But it’s okay because Celty’s worth it, right?” he heard Izaya say.
Shinra’s ears perked up and he smiled finally. Yes. It was okay. Because she was worth it. She was the most beautiful, amazing woman he’d ever laid eyes upon.
He grinned. “You’re right. So I won’t have a first kiss. Who cares?” he giggled, smiling at his friends, “You know, I’m embarrassed to say I sometimes forget she doesn’t have a face…. Because, you know, sometimes I think I can see her expressions, you know?”

When it came to Celty, Shinra had roughly the attention span of a baby gerbil. They could be in the middle of absolutely any conversation, and one mention of Celty could send Shinra reeling, recounting some tale or memory of something related to Celty and NOT related to whatever had just been being discussed. Izaya knew because he'd tested this a few times before, and now found that it came distinctly in handy when he was trying to be evasive. Seriously, he could start a conversation about almost anything (even destroying the world, or something) and halfway through, he could mention Celty and Shinra was suddenly gone, completely distracted.
Such a tactic was just as effective now. Before Shinra could descend into tears again, Izaya had only to remind him that he loved Celty and that's all there was to it. Izaya had heard Shinra's claims enough, and Shinra always responded this way when it came to Celty.
It left Izaya with only two conclusions to draw. Either he really was that stupid-in-love with Celty… or he'd talked this thing up so much that he couldn't back down from it and had to show that he was affected when Izaya said things like that.
Izaya pat Shinra's shoulder lightly and replied teasingly, "Of course. You spend all day staring at her like a lovesick puppy, you're bound to learn how to read a few of her emotions."

Shinra nodded, whipping his eyes. He nodded, looking up at Izaya and Shizuo. “You’re right. It only makes sence because I love her more than a thousand suns. In fact, I love her with as much dark matter that there is in the universe – not just the known universe, but the entire universe! My love for her is that big! It’s endless! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you Izaya…” he smiled and tossed his arms around his friends’ necks, smiling as he held them close.
“You two are the best,” he said, smiling softly to himself. He could never replace these guys. If only they’d get along better. “Oh! I know! Why don’t we all watch a movie!” Shinra smiled. Perhaps her could MAKE them like each other more… play matchmaker friend-maker.
He moved away from them. “C’mon! What do you guys want to see?” he pressed STOP on the sad, sappy movie currently in the machine.

Once again, Shinra took the bait and responded quite enthusiastically to Izaya's mention of the teen's love for Celty. Really, it never did fail. Even when he was teasing, Shinra took the comments as absolutely heartfelt and chose to rant on them.
On the upside, it looked like Shinra's depression over his rejection was more quickly overcome than Izaya had expected. He had anticipated at least another hour or two of sobbing, mopey Shinra before his big turnaround. But if Shinra had decided to recover more quickly, then so be it. The last thing Izaya would do was argue with that. Shinra's personality was something a bit to… extravagant for him, but he would rather deal with a cheerful, silly Shinra than a sobbing one.
Izaya 'oof'ed a little when Shinra threw an arm around him, though he should have been expecting it, and when he offered to have them watch a movie that was a bit less… sappy, Izaya was more than happy to go along with it.
"Maybe something with zombies," Izaya suggested with a casual smile, though he didn't know if Shinra even had any such movies.

Shizuo just watched and listened. He wasn't really good with this girl stuff. Granted he assumed Shinra was farther then both he and Izaya were. With a soft sigh, he walked around and flopped down by Shinra and shrugged.
“Nothing that warns me wanting to beat up Izaya more then I already do.” he said. Wait... why was he agreeing to stay and watch a movie. Shinra seemed fine, could he just leave now? He glanced at his friend and sighed. Maybe putting up with being in the same room as the flea wouldn't be so bad. Oh hell, who was he kidding, it'd be hell.
“Look Shinra if you are okay and all, maybe I should just go.” he said leaning forward on the couch, watching him file through the movies he had next to the TV. If he left then he wouldn't feel the constant need to punch someone in the face. The more he thought about it the more he liked that idea.

Shinra was leafing through his movies, looking for something with zombies when Shizuo responded.
He slowly turned around and stared at Shizuo. “You’re… you’re leaving?”
Well, yes he was feeling better… but everyone knows the cure to depression is to keep active! Be with friends! It wasn’t like he was cured, or anything, the love of his life turned him down for prom… that still smarted. Sure, she clearly loved him back, I mean, how couldn’t she? They were meant to be! But wouldn’t YOU be upset if the love of your life was too busy to go to prom with you?
She wasn’t even busy, he was pretty sure she was going to some alien movie.
He looked at his knees, picking imaginary lint off his pants. He finally looked back up at Shizuo. “Wont you stay just a liiiiitle longer, Shizuo-kun? I mean, you came all this way….. and it’s not like you have a date…. I can get you a glass of milk.” He then looked at Izaya, silently begging him with his eyes not to skip out on him too.

Izaya rolled his eyes as Shizuo's movie suggestion was something that didn't want to make him beat him up. Really? Now Izaya wasn't unreasonable; he knew he could be a pest at times. And at times like that, Izaya knew he deserved it when Shizuo took a swing at him, and he had no problem with that. Izaya was just irritated by Shizuo's apparently constant need to be violent with him, even when he WASN'T doing anything to warrant it. Here he was, just trying to hang out and help Shinra pick out a movie, and all Shizuo could do was threaten violence at him.
Then Shizuo announced that maybe he should leave and all Izaya could think was "good riddance." Shizuo had hardly been a help here at all. Izaya hadn't even understood what Shinra was thinking when he invited their blond schoolmate over. After all, when it came to patience, understanding and offering comfort… Shizuo was the last person Izaya would turn to. If he wanted to leave, Izaya didn't have a problem with it.
But of course Shinra didn't want Shizuo to go, so having Shizuo leave now would likely turn on the waterworks again, which was not what Izaya needed. If his choices were to keep Shizuo here and keep Shinra happy, or let Shizuo leave and deal with more tears from Shinra… well, Izaya was willing to suck it out and have Shizuo stick around.
"You'll end up making him cry again if you leave," Izaya said bluntly, frowning at Shizuo.

Shizuo looked from Shinra to Izaya... then back to Shinra. “Fine.” He said then leaned back against the couch again. He honestly couldn't care about what Izaya had to say on the matter but Shinra seemed to see need him there. Heaven knew why the science jock still wanted him around.
After a moment he shifted around and sat up better, “Pick out something... we can laugh at.” He suggested. “And stuff our faces with popcorn at.” he added as he watched Shinra go back to the movies.
It then occurred to him, “What if we went and rented a movie?” Shizuo asked, throwing that option out to the other two boys in the room. There had to be a place in walking distance they could get to and rent a movie, right? Shizuo just shrugged, either way the idea was out there. Willing to be picked up if they couldn't find something that Shinra always owned.
