Tis the place to talk about the anime. Like the ups and downs of the characters and the ins and out of the color gangs. Just mind the rules of the site.
Since I am posting this and I have seen the anime I am going to give my thoughts on it. So, here we go.
I've only watched it dubbed, mainly cause I can get through it faster. When my friends approached me with the idea of the site I had to finish the series. Which is why I've only ever seen the anime. But I had read half of manga that is out currently. But on the note of the anime.
The cast was put together rather well, English wise. And over all I really enjoyed it. Otherwise I wouldn't be here, lol. I don't think there was really anything that I wasn't pleased with. I do enjoy a series that doesn't make me sob a river of tears but has me laughing. It was a nice change for me.
There didn't seem to be one character that didn't have at least something to do with another character. Granted even before I was picked to be Shizuo I did wish there was more of him and his brother. Even after the OVA.
So aside from Izaya making me 'Wat do?' every so often with his actions I did really enjoy it. And I totally plan on owning and re watching is again. C:

Durarara!! is really unique to me not only because it's so great, but the way I got into it.
As mentioned before, I got a Shizuo/Izaya promotional pin while I was staying in japan. It has the show name in katakana on it. Later I also found ads for it in a manga I bought there, and got more intrested in what in the world this anime was everyone is Osaka seemed to love.
When I got home, I googled "Dulalala" (I assumed the ras were actually las) and came across the manga. At first, I didn't know what to think of it, until Izaya started crushing cell phones. Then I was in love. I bought a bootleg of the Japanese episodes soon afterwards (Yes I'm bad) and watched it through. I find the story to be so compelling because at first, you think "Oh this is some other stupid romance story" but the interconnections between the characters and the references to other animes (Especially in the manga) make it feel more like real life. The characters aren't just one sided. My favorite detail in the anime is the shading. The coloring of the main characters against the crowd really gives the viewer a sense of closeness (if that makes sense). It feels intimate. You want all the people to light up and tell you their story.
I am currently slowly watching the dubbed version. So far I am actually impressed. I am really looking forward to see how they handle the mother kanji though.
Random note: When I first watched the anime, Kida was my least favorite character. During the first episodes, I hated him. However, as Durarara is mysterious and amazing, they shot me in the heart with his backstory. I really love the two sides to Kida, and how he is portrayed. Unlike Shizuo, I did not make it through without crying.

I already explained how I got into the anime, but you know what you're reading this and that probably means you're bored so HAHAHA bro you're about to sit through some boring old story.
Once upon a time (beginning of last summer), little ProfessorSarcasm was invited by her friend to have an art table at a convention. Thinking it would be a nice experience, she agreed. They had sleepless nights, splitting the things to draw, mostly consisting of popular animes. The day before the convention, little ProfessorSarcasm was given the task of making and printing the templates of their art. As she printed she noticed something...bookmarks of certain three characters. One looked like the definition of "troll," another was holding a broken stop sign, and lastly, some girl in a kitty helmet. Thinking it a strange trio, she decided to look this up after the convention.
After obtaining the name of the anime from her friend, she began to watch...and watch and watch and watch. In less than two days, she'd watched the entire series. She was impressed because of several things: -The story that began with several seemingly unrelated pieces that later came together -Colourful personality for every character -Non-cliche drama -Humor -Animation and art -People with realistic hair colours (excluding the ganguro girls) -Defying the laws of physics BECAUSE THEY CAN
And she still needs to watch it dubbed. It's pretty good, though some people seem to think otherwise.
So anyway yeah there you go hey she lived happily ever after as some nerd in her parents' basement or something

Actually yea I like the way that the people are faded and their gang color is the only thing that really stands out among the people. That is unless of course they are main cast. But it totally helps the people watching know who is important in a crowd. Oh! And when Mikado send that e-mail to the dollars and how they all started to actually become more then just shades and such. Once of my favorite moments.
And yea I like the way the ended was rather...up to you. It was open ended. Which made sense in a lot of ways I think since there is the light novels that continue and go much more in depth.
So yea, I pretty much enjoy it for a lot of the reasons you all do I guess. XD lol

I've only watched the anime in Japanese, actually, though I have heard parts of episodes dubbed. The only one I've watched dubbed all the way through is the OVA. To be honest, I prefer the Japanese audio when it comes to the majority of the characters, but I think Kida's and Shizuo's English voices were very fitting. Crispin Freeman makes a really good Shizuo. <3 I personally think Kasuka's voice is a bit too high for someone who is supposed to be so stoic, but it actually does fit him when he's acting. I guess I'd like his more if his English voice actor had given him a deeper inflection when Kasuka wasn't in front of the camera.
I also wish that a bit more background was given to Anri and Mika - I know Anri tells Mikado and Kida that she and Mika were friends but they kind of used each other, as Anri put it - but I would like to learn more about what kind of dynamic they had when Mika wasn't with Seiji and Anri didn't know Kida and Mikado.
What drew me to the anime, however, was the fact that it had Baccano references, and I'm obsessed with Baccano. ^^; But I'm happy to say that I'm now just as obsessed with Durarara - even if I think Baccano is the better anime. But Baccano doesn't have anything on Durarara in terms of character development. And the romances in Durarara are actually built up to make some kind of sense, even if I don't like them *cough*Kida and Saki*coughcough* while in Baccano they are either established before the story even starts or they're put together in ways that make you go "bullshit!" (And I even mean that for the pairings I like.) So in some ways, Durarara is definitely superior to Baccano, but I still like Baccano more due to its pacing and the sheer amount of research that went into Baccano and just how well the dub is done.
I guess I'll wrap it up here before all I talk about is Baccano Baccano Baccano. xD
